Using an organic soil improver will make the soil more water-retentive and encourage earthworms. FAQ

How much light does a tree need?

It all depends on what kind of plant you have. Some plants need 12 hours direct sunlight each day. Others prefer 8 to 10 hours of indirect sun. Vegetables require at least 10 hours of direct sunlight per 24-hour period.

Can I plant fruit trees in pots

Yes! Yes, pots are possible to grow fruit trees if space is tight. Make sure your pot is drained to prevent the tree from getting rotted by excess moisture. You should also ensure that the pot is deep sufficient to support the root ball. This will help prevent stress on the tree.

How often should my indoor plants be watered?

Indoor plants require watering at least once a day. Watering helps maintain humidity levels inside the house. For healthy plants, humidity is vital.

Which seeds should start indoors?

A tomato seed is the best for indoor gardening. Tomatoes are very easy to grow and produce fruit year-round. If you are growing tomatoes in pots, take care when you transplant them to the ground. If you plant too early, the soil may dry out, which could cause the roots to rot. Be aware of diseases like bacterial wilt which can quickly kill plants.

How To

Organic fertilizers for your garden

Organic fertilizers include manure (compost), fish emulsions, seaweed extracts, blood meal, and compost. The term "organic" means that they are produced using non-synthetic material. Synthetic fertilizers can be used in industrial processes. Synthetic fertilizers are used widely in agriculture as they supply nutrients quickly and efficiently to plants without the need for laborious preparation. However, synthetic fertilizers pose a risk to the environment and our health. Synthetic fertilizers require large amounts of energy as well as water to be produced. Synthetic fertilizers also pollute surface and groundwater through runoff. This pollution can be harmful for both wildlife and humans.

There are several kinds of organic fertilisers:

* Manure is produced when livestock eat nitrogen-rich foods (a plant nutrient). It is made up of bacteria and enzymes, which break down the waste into simpler compounds that can be absorbed easily by plants.

* Compost is a mixture from vegetable scraps, grass clippings and decaying leaves. It is rich in carbon, nitrogen, phosphorous, potassium, magnesium and sulfur. It's porous so it is able to retain moisture well, and slowly releases nutrients.

* Fish Emulsion- A liquid product that is made from fish oil. It has the ability to dissolve oils, fats and is very similar to soap. It contains phosphorous, nitrogen, and trace elements.

* Seaweed Oil - A concentrated mixture of minerals taken from kelp, red and brown algae, as well as green algae. It is a good source of vitamins A, C, iron, and iodine.

* Guano is the excrement of seabirds and bats. It contains carbon, nitrogen, phosphorous as well as potassium, sodium and magnesium.

* Blood Meal - The remains of animals slaughtered. It's rich in protein and can be used to feed poultry and other animals. It also contains phosphorus, potassium, nitrogen, and trace minerals.

Combine equal parts of compost, manure and/or fish-emulsion to make organic fertilizer. Mix thoroughly. If you don’t own all three ingredients, one can be substituted for the other. For example, if you only have access to the fish emulsion, you can mix 1 part of fish emulsion with two parts of compost.

Apply the fertilizer to the soil by using a shovel and tiller. One quarter cup of the fertilizer should be spread per square foot. You will need more fertilizer to see signs and growth every two weeks.
